Becoming The Icon

Becoming The Icon is a film using gesture, voice and physical movement to chart the expressive and excessive uses of language by power. As in politics, not everything is a lie but a spectrum of honesty told convincingly.

Two bodies occupy a minimalist theatrical territory defined by light, their relationship to each other and the eye of the camera. Inhabiting the tropes and patterns of political speech and gesture, Lilian Steiner and Emile Zile perform new readings of political power in the age of the network society. Reflecting on the use and deformations of political speech, the performers use physical gesture and voice to create a new form of communication. Less important are the words than the convincing mode of deployment.

Through an exploration of gesture, two bodies explore political speech and the body as a conduit of thought, emotion and truth.
